bought a gigabyte 7n400 pro2 MB for my bro awhile back. if i knew the FSB settings had to be set by some switches on the mb itself instead of in the BIOS i wouldn't have bought it. the problem we're having is he has a 2400+ Athlon XP which should be running 2.0ghz stock but due to the problems we're having in configuring the switches for the FSB speeds it's only running as a 1800+ (1.4ghz). this is because the FSB is at 100mhz and not at the proper 133 but when i set the switches to 133, the system will not boot. i made sure the multipler was properly set in the BIOS to achieve 2ghz but still no boot.

why couldnt they just put the FSB settings and multipler on the BIOS like most other boards? anyone have any ideas or suggestions on configuring this thing. it's so pointless to have a 2ghz cpu but only running at 1.4. i would have more time to look at it if the computer was here but he lives 4hrs away.

I have this board. FSB does not have to be set by dip switches, but can be set in BIOS or in the OS via easytune 4. Now, there is a single dipswitch that toggels between 100mhz and 'auto' which may be your problem. It is labeled "clk-sw" and it towards the back of the board from the northbridge fan header. Make sure it is set to 'on' for auto. Otherwise it will be locked at 100mhz. Once you do that you should be able to change FSB in BIOS by 1mhz values. If not, try hitting ctl + 1 as soon as you enter BIOS. This will open up a lot more options.

Good luck, and if you find a way to increase the vcore overclocking options let me know.

Correct. This board ships defaulted to "fail-safe" 100FSB only mode. It's just one switch to change to AUTO, then you can set it in the BIOS.

BTW, this info is on the same page of the manual that the DIP switch settings are on, right at the beginning. If you saw the dip switch settings in the manual, the picture showing the location of this switch is right there to the left.
