Vizio GV42L 720p set, GeForce 8800GTS 640MB, DVI-HDMI Cable, I can't seem to get 1366x768 which is the native resolution of the screen. It doesn't show up in the control panel at all - I get 1280x720, 1280x768 (which then gets scaled improperly), and also if I go higher than 1280x720 it drops the refresh down to 30hz.

Over the VGA port I get a nice solid 1366x768 @ 60hz, and it looks beautiful. I'd prefer to use HDMI (I have it, might as well). Any possible fixes?

I thought that was an issue with the TV. I have a 42" 1080P plasma. It has two size settings. 100% and 95% (overscan). I always use 100%.

Have you looked at the program Power Strip? I think it has overscan correction. Though I don't know the details, may be desktop only.

It's not overscan - when connected to HDMI, I simply don't have the right resolutions to select from. Over the VGA connection to the same TV, it works fine.

Auric - I can't find anywhere in the NV Control panel that lets that happen. Vista x64, latest NV drivers.

Ridiculously enough, when using an Nvidia card as recently as six months ago, it was actually necessary to add 1280x960. It could be done from either the new or old CP's but I recall the newer was better in that regard. However this was with XP 32. ATI's implementation trumps Nvidia's with a nice interactive GUI that can be dragged to fit the display. Better still, I don't actually have to use it since common resolutions are not missing to begin with.

Nutty. I can only guess the Vista 64 drivers are relatively immature, feature-wise at least. Perhaps there is a third-party proggy or registry edit possible to add the needed resolution. I suggest checking Nvidia's forum.

i've tried that too.

i couldnt get those resolutions with an nvidia card in linux or windows either.

oddly the via unichrome and intel IGP work great in linux and give me the right resolutions. which is totally bizarre.

You can edit a driver's nv_disp.inf to add custom resolutions, the details are explained here:

http://http.download.nvidia.co...es_Users_Guide_2.1.pdf

However, the HDMI ports on many TVs often only support a limited number of resolutions, and since your TV doesn't report it's native resolution as supported it likely won't work even after adding it though the drivers.
