MB: Intel w/ Realtek audio
Speaker: Altec Lansing AVS 500
OS: Vista 64

If I pick 5.1 the front speakers output the rear sounds too and the rear don't make any sound. There's a setting on the sub woofer between gaming and stereo. In gaming mode I get the above mention and in stereo mode all the speakers output the same. Any ideas?

On furhter reading, it seems the speakers I have is 4.1 but the Realtek audio only allows quad and 5.1, both of which aren't working.

I was just using the Realtek manager that was making sounds in each speaker. Also tried a 5.1 audio from the web for testing surround sound. I send it into realtek, they asked for a dump of the audio setup. After seeing it they said to try a BIOS update for the MB. Not sure if they're just trying to pass the buck to Intel.

how many audio plugs come from your speakers. 3 plugs = 5.1, 2 plugs = 4.1. i've never seen a 4.1 set with the third plug just for the subwoofer (usually its for sub + center).

make sure you have your cables plugged in properly
