Can't seem to get music saved to cd to play on stereo

I saved some music from my harddrive to my cd. I tried saving it onto a CD-RW and then tried a CD-R. Does it make a difference. Am I supposed to use a CD-R-RW? That is one question I can't figure out.
Anyway, when I tried to play it on my stereo, I got nothing. I was, however, able to play it on my pc. So, I thought that maybe they have to be converted to WAV, so I purchased a Wav program by ACE on line. I converted the MP3's to Wave, and they still do not play on my stero, but do play on my pc. What am I doing wrong; does anyone have any suggestions to my problem. What are the different causes for this problem, so that I can probe into them.
Should I have converted them to Wav or not. When do you do that? I use a Nero CD burner. My stereo is not broken because I can play cd's on it that I have purchased. What do I need to check on; is it my burner settings, wav program, my cd's???

Not all CD players will play burned CD's, particularly older ones. CD-R's generally work better though.

Are you sure you are actually creating an audio CD? Does it show up as an audio CD in Windows?

If you want to see if your stereo is the problem, use a CD-R and copy a store bought CD with NERO. If that won't play in your stereo, then your stereo is the problem.

Also .... the files should be 44,100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo PCM wave files. This should work in most stereos. CDrws on the other hand will only play in a system that supports CDrw format. They aren't the same and your player won't recognize them unless it has that capability.

Thank you for your input. I tried a couple of your ideas out and they worked. I just finished copying my fourth cd and all came out excellent.
I might have been opening the data mode instead of the audio cd mode in Nero. Also I tried recording it on my cd-RW and it did not work, but when I tried copying onto my cd-R it worked.
Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. I am just fumbling my way through it. There are many things I don't understand like buffer underun protection and buffer overrun and why I have to covert to my music files to Wav in order to play them. But, as long as it works, I am happy.
