cant seem to find a driver for my sound card

ok Im new at all this stuff. My speakers arent working with my computer and I dont know what the problem is. I went into the device manager and it shows a ? mark next to the pci multemedia audio device (which to me means the sound card isnt being read am i right?) anyway. The soundcard is on the board, so I cant see what the info is on the card but this is what i found out about my computer.

mainboard: intel corp
model: D815EEA AA-10380-207
Chipset: intel:815/E/EP

does anyone know what type of driver I would need to make my speakers work?

I downloaded that driver, erased the ? mark audio device in the device manager refreshed it so that it showed new hardware and it still isnt finding what i downloaded anyting else I should try?

hi,
did you run the executable that you downloaded?
you may have to point the installer to the new drivers.
did you use the "update driver" button and "specify location" to point to the drivers that you downloaded?

ok heres the update.
still not working. I went to comp usa and bought a sound card. plugged it in and it doesnt work either. I talked to the IT guy at work and he said they had the same problem with some of the same boards. I guess Intel used a sound card on some boards called cirrus logic. He told me I need to find the information on the board and download the driver from cirrus logic.

sorry to be a pest. but does anyone know where I should start looking on the board for the sound card information?

the reason the sound card you bought probably isn't working is b/c the onboard sound is still turned on. Try going into the bios and turning off the onboard sound.

can you tell me how I do that? i know how to get into the bios but not where to look for it. THANKYOU!!

Try going back into Device Manager and right clicking on the PCI Multimedia audio-then Disable it. This worked for me with an onboard audio on an Intel mobo in 98SE.

It will be in the integrated peripherals section, find Onboard AC97 Audio (or something along those lines) and change from Yes/ON/Auto to Off/Disabled/No.

If the downloaded file was a zip file then you will need to unzip the files to a directory, then use the update drivers button in the device manager properties for your onboard soundcard and point the browse location to that directory. Have you tried windows update, that generally has a host of drivers, covering particularly generic integrated stuff.
