Hi,
I have two drives. The slave drive is NTFS file system and used for backup. I just recently reinstalled Windows but when i go to my computer i dont see my backaup drive. i went to computer management and see it there. It shows it as healthy and active. It also has the name i gave it.(storage) the problem is when i try to assisgn it a drive letter i can't. everthying is greyed out. the only option is to format. I can't do that since i have important data on there. My primary drive is NTFS. Everything looks normal but i cant assign a drive letter. so what i did was to reinstall again. the installation windows shows my primary drive with C: next to it and my backup drive with F: next to it. Any suggestions on how i cant get my data back. My cousin has an external case he is going to let me borrow, so hopefully that helps. but i want to know is there any other way besides this. Thanks

I've had similar problems but need some more info.

Are you saying that when you go to Computer Management (then Disk Management) and right-click on the drive you dont have the option to check 'properties' or 'change drive letter and paths'?
If you do, I would Remove the drive and then Add it again. Or Change the Letter a few times to see if it picks up.

If you cant, then the Device Manager and your drivers are a better place to start troubleshooting before the Disk Management.

Go back to disk management.
Right click on the F:
"Mark Partition as Active"
That should fix it.

If you can't do that (greyed out) you might be in trouble. Did you make it a Dynamic Disk in your old install? If you did, you might not be able to get it back without formatting.

What does dynamic disk mean? I dont think i did that but wanted to know what is mean. Options are greyed out. I could only convert to dynamic disk but risk losing my data
