for the past year i've had my PC, HTPC and Xbox all on a network working fine. over that time my brother who adds his own of the above when he was home from college. worked fine and nothing broke the other times when he hooked up. this time though my main pc (only XP box in the house) stoped seeing other computers and other computers can't see it. I don't even see my own computer when I go to view the computers on the network. I can ping from my main pc to any other pc fine. I tried just typing a computer into windows explorer and no luck.

anyone have any ideas. I would rather not reinstall windows over this but its looking like I might have to since I can't figure it out.

Tried doing the winsock fix, with no luck. turned off the firewall to see if that would fix it with no luck. I've tried changing the computer to a different workgroup along with all computers on the network with no luck. hell yesterday my router and all switchers were swaped out (not to fix this problem but to facilitate my U-Verse install) and that didn't fix it ethier.

Can you map to the other computers using the IP address of the computers? You know... \\192.168.1.101\c$
