Can't see new HD in Windows 98

I just added a IBM 30gb HD to my current system and everything seems to be set up correctly but when I look for it in "My Computer" it doesn't show up. If I go to the Control Panel and check it out under the System icon the hard drive is listed but it doesn't get a drive letter assigned to it. I can't figure out how to get it recognized under windows. Any help would be appreciated, please.

First off, does the BIOS detect/see the new HDD installed?

Also, you must format the HDD before Windows will see it.

yea-- definetly go into the bios to see if the HD is being detected... then format it if it is. If its still not showing up, make sure the power cord and IDE cable are all pushed in all the way and nothing is lose. If your still getting nothing--- might be a bad drive.

you need to fdisk the hdd before win98 assigns a drive letter to it! 🙂
 
And, just to make sure, before you fdisk, check your IDE and drive connections to see that they're connected okay.

A couple of days ago, I added a slave tape drive to my CD-RW, and when I booted up, the system didn't recognize my CD-RW (jumpers were properly set to master/slave). It turned out that the connector to the CD-RW drive wasn't in securely - there was just a little part wasn't fully pushed in.
