Can't see all of desktop with GeForce 6200

I have an old computer I upgraded to windows 7. The video on the motherboard seemed to work OK, but videos in media player were jumpy. So I installed a GeForce 6200, with the most recent downloaded Nvidia drivers. No more jerky video.

But, with the resolution set to 1600x1200, the native resolution of my Dell 20 inch monitor, the right side of the desktop is hidden - the date/time, etc do not show. Going into the nvidia control center, you can adjust the display by moving the desktop left or right, but you cannot adjust the size. If I move it to show date/time on the right, the desktop icons on the left are not visible.

If I set resolution to 1600x1024, everything is visible, but pictures are distorted, ie faces in portraits are skrunched horizontally, which narrows faces.

Any suggestions on how to display in the monitor's native 1600 x 1200, and still see everything?

Does your monitor have any sort of controls to adjust the picture size?
Is this a CRT or an LCD we are talking about?

Either should have some sort of auto calibration if it was made within the last 5 years.

And if not you can open the Nvidia control panel and shift the image to where you need.

Monitor doesn't have adjustments for image size. It's an LCD.

It's older than 5 yrs. Yes, the Nvidia control panel lets me shift the image. But the problem is that with the resolution set to 1600 x 1200, the native of the LCD monitor, the right or the left of the desktop is cut off, depending on how I shift it.

To get the whole desktop displayed, I have to set the resolution to 1600 x 1024, and then the images are distorted, although the whole desktop is visible.

if you are using a hdmi cable, then it is an overscan/driver issue.

otherwise go into settings and select "show resolutions not supported by monitor". pick one of the native res and refresh rates that come up. one of those might work

No, I am using a VGA cable.

No adjustment for size, other than resolution, in Nvidia drivers.

I was out of town for a month, but when I got home, I tried the auto adjust, and that took care of the problem. Have never used "auto adjust" on a monitor before and didn't realize that was there - thanks.
