Can't see all 45GB of my IBM GXP75 HDD

My problem is that my Asus P4T's MoBo BIOS (v1004) has a LBA maximum capacity of 33.82GB and my IBM HDD is 45GB. Therefore I'm only getting 33.8 gigs. BIOS version 1004 is the latest so flashing is not an option. I do have a Promise ULTRA100 TX2 (PCI) controller card available to me. But that thing hasn't been much help because the HDD always gets formatted and partitioned on the MoBo controller (LBA max. 33.8GB). If I try to format and partition the HDD on the Promise controller, the system won't even see the Promise card because there are no drivers for it on this "new bare HDD". Catch 22. Any help is appreciated.

Seems like you should be able to partition it into 33g & 12g & Windows should see it just fine & you still get your 45g total.

You would think. But using Partition Magic 6.0 Pro still only sees 33.82GB because that's what it was partitioned and formatted to. I can seem to break the grip!

So without the Promise controller & with the drive partitioned to 33/12 you still don't get a D Drive with 12gigs in Windows or OS? You did install an O/S right?

What mobo do you have? does it support the amount of cylinders, etc? you may need to use a drive overlay.

The setup utility that you can download from IBM has an option to set the number of cylinders to be used, when you get to that screen it will show you the number used and ask if you want to use all available cylinders, this screwed me up when I installed my 75gxp, there was a notice during setup that I didnt read that ended up being the thing that set the number of cylinders so that the drive would be 32gb, I finally found the screen and told it to use all cylinders and wala! it was fixed.

Did install a OS (Win 98SE). Mobo is Asus P4T (BIOS v1004). Did use the Dynamic Drive Overlay (saw all 45GB) but when installing the ATA/100 drivers (both Intel and/or Promise) installation would hang-up! When using PM to partition, PM wouldn't see more than 33.8GB. I could partion all I want, just never total more than 33.8GB.
