Can't search for numerals?

Why doesn't the forum search function work with numerals?

I can't search for 939, 478, 754, etc...its very frustrating!

Put the numbers in quotes and it works just fine.

Example:
"939"
"1366"
"478"
"775"

It does get results with words (mostly).

ability to search with just a string of numbers
searching only numbers...
Is searching for numbers EVER going to work?
Searching for '802.11g' returns no threads and no error message

vbulletin seems to have the same problem. is there a workaround?
