Can't save internet settings in Win2000

I am now running Win2000 and can't make the internet settings stay the way I change them. If I typed "anandtech" (or any other web address name) in the address bar of Win98 it would go to it. If I do that in Win2000 it goes to MSN's web site and searches for it. I have tried to change it by going to "internet options" and click on the "advanced" tab and scroll down to "search from the address bar", I then check the box "Just go to the most likely site" and then click on "Apply" and "close".

Next time I type in a address it goes to MSN's web site again and does a search for it. When I go back and look at the internet properties, the box I checked to "Just go to the most likely site", will not be checked anymore. How can I get it to stay checked and "Just go to the most likely site"? Thnaks

It's not a W2K thing. It's a Internet Explorer thing and I don't think it can be changed. You have to type the WWW.

You are right that it is a Internet Explorer thing, but shouldn't the settings that you choose in the internet options stay the way you change them? When I check a box with my preferences and then click "Apply" shouldn't it stay that way? Mine doesn't. The settings I choose will not be checked the very next time I look at it. Any ideas?

FOH,

Easy fix 🙂

Go to internet options, (tools, Internet Options)
Click on content tab, click on auto complete button.

Make sure web address is clicked

Bingo for ya ! 😀

Oh yeah, on the check thing, make sure auto complete "Forms" is also checked

Thanks for the reply but that is not what I am after either. I know about the auto complete and that is working O.K. I am still wondering why changes that I make in the internet options won't stay even when I hit "apply and close". :disgust:
