But it's good to be able to bring up old topics months later. Heck, maybe it'd reduce the forum load if we just kept every recurring topic going in one single thread. :) Or at least just mean fewer topics having to be stored separately.

People repost things that are 3 hours old, much less 45 days.

There are over 22000 threads in Off Topic as it is, if Zuni allowed this to get much higher then it would just cause the database servers a lot of extra work having to sort a bigger set of threads, thus slowing the site down.

45 days is it, we aren't changing it. It keeps the main messages table smaller and faster. You can still search archives, more than enough.
