The answer (or answers) to this question depend on a lot of information that you didn't provide:

* What OS?
* What NIC?
* What network setup? (Direct to CABLE/DSL, dial-up, SOHO/home router, public network, Work/business router/etc., and what type of router?)
* Is it a wired or wireless connection?
* If it is wireless, are you using encryption? Have you confirmed that you are using the correct security key? Can you disable encryption temporarily to see if it works then?
* When was the last time it worked? And what has changed since then?
* What was your IP address previously?
* Are you getting an error message when you try to renew the IP address? If so, what is the error message?
* Can you confirm that you have a physical connection to the network (i.e. lights on your NIC)?
* Do you have a different connection or port you can try to make sure it's not a problem with the patch cable or port on the router?
* Do you have another computer you can try on the same connection?

How do you try to do this? Do you go to a command prompt and do this . . .

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Or do you use windows's repair option?
