I am trying to clean off my mom's new computer, and Norton Antivirus was just installed. After running the first system scan, I was told that \system32\ipconfig was infected with Hacktools, but it could not be repaired.
Checking the Norton site suggested that the virus might be loaded into memory, and to run the scanner in safe mode. I restarted, and I was not able to detect the virus since (safe mode or otherwise).
Seems unlikely that this infection would clear up by itself. Any suggestions?
