Can't read some CD's

A friend sent me 4 cd's with various stuff on them..all were burnt on the same machine yet I can only explore/use/copy 2 of the 4. What could cause that and is there any way I could see/use what's on the other cd's?

That happens with my computer downstairs, some CDs just don't work properly or at all, yet they do on other computers.. in my case it's because my cdrom somehow got fux0red, I don't know if that's the case with you, but it could be.

Its not so uncommon for this to happen. Hell, i bought Drakan (the PC game), and when running the game it asked me to insert the CD even though it was inside. Keep in mind this was NOT a burn but the real CD. Worked fine on my friends computer though. Replaced the copy, same thing happened. Some CD drives just don't work. I remember my old 2x drive couldn't read recordables at ALL (you'd just hear strange clicking sounds comming out of the drive).

btw, the drive I use now is an Acer 32X

DOA..that is the same cd I have...Really strange stuff....anybody else have any solutions or suggestions?

edit: BTW....what version firmware do you have wit that? I have 322p and I'm not quite sure that is correct...I dont even know the model no. of my CD and I'm too lzt to take off the case to check..All I know is whats written on the front panel---Acer 32X
