Can't reach internet

Trying to help my neighbor with his son's Dell Dimension 3000. He is using a Belkin wireless antenna talking to a Verizon DSL router and for some reason, recently, he cannot launch IE....or....Netscape Navigator which I installed just to see if there was some issue with IE. His wireless network connection icon in the SysTray indicates that he has a strong signal and yet NG getting out to the internet.

Probably should mention that he routinely (used to anyway) downloads a lot of music from LimeWire and ITunes (Virus?). He is on a WEP secured network.

His sister has a laptop that can get out to the internet so I ruled out an issue with the router...right?

Any help as to where to look for issues would be greatly appreciated.....he needs to do research for school work.😕

The first thing to check is to see if he is getting a valid ip/subnet/gateway/dns from the dhcp server. From a command prompt type ipconfig and see what you get for network addresses. Then see if you can ping the router by going to a command prompt and typing ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where X is the ip address of the wireless router
