Cant print on network

I have 1 computer that is windows 2000, the other is 98SE. I can interchange files between the too and I have my printer (on the 2000 computer) shared. But when i go to print from the 98SE, it wont let me,it says it cant be found or something. I do have it installed and the path set to this computer. Any suggestions? Also I want to make it so that I ccan have the printer as part of the network, and not just my computer and the other one when mine is on. What can i do about that?

What type of printer? Any more details on the error message? On the details tab of the printer properties on the Win98 machine, what does the port say?

In order to have the printer on the network as a device, so that you can print directly to it without it being shared from one of the computers, you either have to have a print server like an HP JetDirect or a NIC in the printer. Then the printer is not dependent on a computer being on.

Another alternative to getting the printer on the network, is to use the SMC Barricade router. I use this to share my cable modem and my parallel port printer. Now any machine can access these devices without a "server" machine being on.

Doing a print server will be a lot better than having this one on. I built both of them.

The printer I'm using is a Canon BJC610

2000 is:
Asus P3V4X
PIII-800 133bus
128mb PC133
27.3gb IBM HDD
8X DVD
1.2gb Conner removable hdd
Rage Fury Pro
Creative PCI512 Sound card
10/100 NIC
56k modem

98 is:
Biostar M6TZF
PII-350
32mb PC100
10.2gb IBM hdd
4mb Trident
10/100 NIC
56k modem

Whats the best thing to get to do a print server, and how much will it cost on the forums?
