OK, so this is the fourth system I've built, but I have what sounds like a dumb question.

I've put the Athlon 64 3200 into the ASUS A8N-E board I picked up on the Microsoft/AMD tech tour. I installed 1 GB of good memory, an Xmdia PCI-E card, and the Cooler Master power source (430W). I figured it would be good to do a test before putting in the case, so on the desktop (literally, but with a foam pad) I plugged the LCD into the card, made the two power connections, and flipped the power on and got...almost nothin'.

No fan motion on the power source, no fan motion on the CPU cooler, and when I put an external fan onto the CPU fan pins, no motion. The only thing I get is a lonely green LED on the motherboard.

I reseated the memory, the video card, and the LCD connection, but nothin' but the green LED.

Shorting green and black wires on the power source results in the fan spinning, so I suspect either I have the CPU in wrong (I don't think so), or the mobo is DOA.

Took out the battery and reset the CMOS with the jumper...nothin' but the ol' green light.

Took out the CPU and reset, NOTHIN'.

Please tell me its somethin' easy...I'm not too proud.🙁

4 things are needed to post.

CPU,
RAM
Video Card
Power Supply(Yes boys and girls this part is required to POST)

Now, you state the thing turns on so you can assmue for now that the PSU is not the problem.

Next I would check the RAM. Try swapping out the ram for another set if you have a spare set. When I built my A64 beast I though I killed the CPU or MOBO when I used some old PC2100 ram from my Athlon 2500. When I put the PC3200 ram in the thing did fire up no problems.

Another issue could be that your CPU fan may not be pluged in. Some MOBOs will not POST if there is no CPU fan installed.

Next issue. CPU is cracked. Your SOL

Another issue. GPU is furbar. Your SOL

Curiouser and curiouser.

When I flip the power source on, I still get no movement of any fans either in the power source or on the mobo. However, I still get a green LED on the mobo which the manual indicates means that "the system is ON, in sleep mode, or in soft-off mode."

I took out the video card and the memory sticks, leaving only the CPU and the CPU cooler (and the power source). Flipped the power and...NOTHING but the stinkin' green light.

So how do I wake 'er up?
