Here's my problem. Maybe someone can help.

I have Embarq (was Sprint) DSL with Earthlink support (my email addresses are through Earthlink) and use IE6 and Win XP.

With my desktop I show as being logged in to the forums but I can't post or edit posts. I get Error 189 Login denied, you are not authorized to login to the forums, even though I am logged in - it shows my name on the left, I can PM, access my profile, my forums, etc.

Tried my laptop, same deal, can't post but it says I am logged in. Logged out on it, cleared cache, tried to log in but can't. Same error message.

Dialed up Netzero on my desktop and I can post. Hung up and tried again through DSL. No dice.

Dialed up Earthlink with my desktop. I can post. Hung up and tried again through DSL. No go.

Problems started after I put in a new router and a new DSL modem.

Any suggestions? Anyone?

I have moved this to Networking, let's see if you get any more help here.

How often does it happen? Have you tried using another browser? FF, Opera, IE7? I don't know much using a different browser will help, because I can tell you that I received that error once while using FF, but it did happen during the same time as the new forums were being added, so I just attributed it to that since it hasn't happened since then.

In addition to clearing your cache, are you clearing all your cookies? Maybe that could be a problem.

i had a problem similar to that. i had made some changes to my browser. i could get on AT but i couldn't log in. some of the changes disabled website features i'm guessing. i couldn't figure it out so i reinstalled windows. probably not what you want (or should) do, but it is a last resort.

It's not a sometimes thing. It is 24/7. Don't have another browser. I'm afraid that clearing cookies will log me out and then I can't get back in like what happened with my laptop, but if nothing else works, I will try it.

Sounds like Embarq is using an ip in the banned range.

I hadn't thought of that. I'll ask the mods.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Now that I think of it I had this happen to me on another forum I frequented quite regularly. It was odd that it only occured on that website. I contacted their webmaster and he was unable to fix it, and suggested I tried my ISP for a solution. My ISP changed my IP and then all worked fine.

Maybe changing your IP addy would help?

I assume you re-set the router and modem?
You might also run a cmd line and release/renew your IP.
If the dsl service is new to you, are they using a proxy in the connections panel of IE under tools - internet options - connections?

Router and modem are both brand new and have been reset since the problem started. No change.

Released and renewed. IP address went from xxx.xxxx.xx.5 to xxx.xxx.xx.2. Still can't post.

DSL service is several years old and no proxy is used.

Thanks. :(

She knows she's not banned so I have to assume she has heard. Why wouldn't you assume the same thing?
