can't play video on vlc but can with others

i really want to get vlc to work, but everytime i play a file using vlc it pops up, then immediately disapears. i've done some testing and video doesn't work on winamp as well, only sound.

media player classic home cinema, wmp 9, acdsee pro 5 (of all things), can play the video just fine. i installed k-lite codec pack. i need some assistance
edit: works fine on powerdvd 7.3

I don't think I've seen a video file that other players can play, and vlc can't. What format is it? ISO?
