I need some help playing my MP3 files.

I installed and uninstalled various codec packs to get my video editing down but in doing so, I ended up messing up my MP3 playback.

I can't play the MP3 files using Windows Media Player or MediaMonkey but I can play the files using VLC Player.

I don't know what else to do as I have tried a "fresh" install of different codec packs.
I have tried K-Lite codec pack and currently have Combined Community Codec Pack installed.

Is there any program that eliminate all of the codecs so I can start over?

THANKS

Yeah I've uninstalled but I need something more comprehensive since a lot of times they leave behind registry settings, etc.

You can use free softwares like Codec Sniper or DXMan to detect and delete the codecs you want.

I would recommend reinstalling WMP, sometimes other apps use parts of it which would explain why they both have issues.

I used Sam25's technique and compared my codecs installed on my non-functioning desktop to the ones on my laptop that could play MP3 files using DXMan.

I was apparently missing this codec: Fraunhofer MPEG Layer-3 Audio Decoder

I guess it doesn't come installed in any codec packs so I just downloaded it and now everything is working.

THANKS everyone
