Can't play internet games via DSL

Hi all,

I just got the DSL line from verizon (after a month of struggle), and I can surf the web, download stuff and everything just about fine. But when I try to play online games like Quake2 or Counterstrike, I cannot play those games. Its not just those games, I cannot play just about any game. I have no idea what is going on. I do not want to call bell atlantic tech support because

1. I have to wait 2 hours just to get someone.
2. Those people don't know squat what the h#ll I am talking about.
3. All they say is, the line is fine/clear and they don't know why I can't play the game.

I swear to GOD, service from Bell Atlantic/Verizon sucks big time and they can't help me at all.

So I was wondering if someone can help me out on what is going on.:|

I don't really know much about it...but maybe something is blocking the outgoing data? such as a firewall: do you have norton internet firewall or zonealarm installed? if you don't, then I really can't help you further...maybe someone else will be able to.

Does internet games use IPX for their protocol or is that just LANs? If so that is most likely your answer. I just can't remember the answer...

The net games use tcp/ip, that shouldn't be the problem, do you mean you can't play cause your
ping is so bad or you can't connect?

I meant to say that I can't play I get connected to the server and then after that I get automatically disconnected. I do not have disconnect if idle for x mins enabled. And not I do not use any sort of firewall or any other kind that block any port. I have TCP/IP bind correctly as I said I can browse the internet as much as I want. even if I leave it idle for 24 hours a day it does not disconnect me.

There is something that does not make sense, I will investigate further and see if anyone else had the same problem and how they resolved it. Any help is greatly appretiated and thank you for everyone who had some words to say. Appretiate all your help/inputs.
:frown:
