Diablo2 v1.03

Whenever I try to JOIN a game created on another computer on my LAN, D2 minimizes, and the game tries to dial out over the phone line to connect... instead of just using the LAN connection.

The same thing happens no matter which of the 2 computers is used as the Server. The correct IP address is input. I can play other games just fine using the IPX/SPX Protocol. This is the first time I've tried playing a game using the TCP/IP Protocol on this LAN.

WIN98se

Linksys 10/100 ethernet LAN card (LNE 100TX v4)
Linksys 5-Port Switch
USR 56k Data/Fax modem (internal - COM 3)
Internet provided by local ISP (via USR modem over phone line)

Network Configuration:

Client for Microsoft Networks
Dial-up Adapter
Linksys LNE 100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter

IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol -> Linksys LNE 100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter
TCP/IP Dial-Up Adapter (Protocol)
TCP/IP -> Linksys LNE 100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter
File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks

Primary Logon: Client for Miscrosoft Networks
Share-level access control
Workgroup: WORKGROUP

NO other adapters or protocols are listed.

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated... I sure want to get playing on Multiplayer.

Thanks Much,
R2

Give your computers static IP's -
right click on network neighborhood-->click properties-->scroll down and select the TCP/IP protocol for you network card-->click properties-->click the IP Address tab-->put in the following for each computer...

computer 1 = 192.168.0.1
computer 2 = 192.168.0.2
ect.....

Each computer should have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

That should work.

Let me know what happens.

Thanks for the very quick reply vi_edit.

It turns out that I needed to tell Internet Explorer to Never Dial a Connection. But I'll keep your information in case I run into more problems. Thanks :)
