Can't play avi files.

It seems like WMP pics and chooses which avi files it wants to play. I had the Divx codec and that didn't work, and then I downloaded ffdshow codec and that didn't work. Does anyone have a solution? WMP is giving me this error saying " Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

AVI is a general wrapper for codecs. Look for a program named "KC Video Inspector", it'll tell you exactly what video/audio codecs are required for a specific file.

Also, VLC player has great video compatability w/o requiring additional codecs.

Combined Community Codec Pack + ogg + Quick Time + BS player 🙁 all i ever need

I hate kaza lite codec pack and VLC is a terrible player ;(

ok. the video inspector is saying that the video is not valid and that it is not complete. So I guess I will try redownloading the file.

I run into the same thing when I reinstall my system. I end up installing half a dozen "xVid/Divx" codecs before I come across something that plays everything I have. But yeah, it sounds like you have a corrupted file this time.
