CAN'T PLAY AVI files in Media Player using XP pro here

Download and install the corresponding codec. I am guessing its probably the divx codec that u need.

ok, downloaded Divx player 2.0 alpha. But, i prefer playing my files in Media Player. is it possible to play the avi files in Media Player? don't get it, before Win xp, i had no problems playing that file type in the previous versions of media player

With the DivX codec installed, U shouldnot have any problems with playing those files in Media Player. I run Win XP and can play DivX format thru the Media Player.

But imho, Media Player is too cumbersome and I prefer The DivX Player to play my DivX format ...

WMP 6.4 is the best for playing back divx media, other versions have difficulty playing them even with the correct codec installed. It may also be worth it to download the nimo codec pack. With divx it is never a bad idea to have several players on hand in case 1 or 2 can't play the file, I use sasami2k, the divx playa, and wmp 6.4.
