Cant play Audio CDs

For some strange reason I cannot play audio cds in win2k. I recently reformatted but installed all the correct drivers aand the audio cable is in, bu still no luck. Anyone know what to do?
 
Did you

1) verify that the audio cable is running from your CD ROM drive to the audio connector on the soundcard?

2) verify the CD audio in your volume settings is not muted and turned up?

That's all I can think of.

Did you double check all your mute options in the play control? If you're using the 2 pin digital audio cable, then you'll need to unmute the digital CD audio instead of the regular CD audio.
