Can't play any optical media

Basically the problem is that my two optical drives won't detect any media - DVDs, burned discs, CDs, nothing. I haven't used them for a couple days and the only thing I can think of that I've done is uninstall PowerDVD. Right now I've got Casino Royale in my DVD-RW and it shows up in My Computer and it says the file system is UDF. AnyDVD also detects it. Try as I might though I cannot get my drives to play anything.

I've tried uninstalling the drives (and subsequently reinstalling), resetting the computer, trying all sorts of different discs ... I can't get it... :( Anyone have any ideas?

Edit: Something slightly different happened ... I booted up the computer with a normal CD in and the CD started up fine. Then I put a burned DVD in the drive and it started fine. But I tried a normal DVD and now nothing will boot again. :(
