i have a DVD rom that i havent used since i reinstalled windows, when i try to play a dvd now i get a disk not found message.

i have WinDVD Software so that isnt the problem.

windows doesnt have a driver update and i couldnt find one online.

any thoughts...

If it is a DVD+R that you are trying to play, it may be that your DVD drive doesn't support it. Try DVD Identifier to see if your drive supports the disk.............

try updating the chipset drivers for your motherboard. I have a nforce2 based mobo that had the same basic problem. The latest chipset drivers from nvidia.com fixed the problem.

yes windows xp

putting a dvd disk in the drive - it shows up as nothing there.

in my computer though the drive itself labeled as a cd drive although it should be labeled dvd drive..

hardware manager/ properties of the drive show it as a dvd-rom drive though

thanks for any help
