Hey guys... I've been troubleshooting this problem for the past few months with no success. I figured I'd give this place a shot.

The basic gist: one day my Windows XP remote desktop wouldn't accept connections anymore. Outgoing remote desktop connections are fine. I turned off my firewall, AV, everything, still no go. I verified it was turned on, still nothing. I did a netstat -a and it's definitely listening on port 3389. Then I realized that I could no longer ping my PC on my LAN. I have another linux box on my LAN and can't ping my Windows XP box. I can ping from Windows to my Linux box though. I tried reinstalling/upgrading my NIC drivers with no luck. I have no problem surfing the web or anything. I noticed that direct connect on AIM have problems working too. I think I've tried just about everything. No clue what the deal is. It just seems my PC does like incoming ANYTHING. Anybody have any suggestions besides reinstalling Windows? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If it's not the firewall, then are you using an nVidia-chipset motherboard? There've been reports of malfunctioning NIC drivers that cause weird behavior like this. Try an EARLIER version of the NIC driver.

It is an nForce board I believe (I'll double check when I get home). The onboard NIC is a Marvell Yukon. The exact model I have at home. I recently upgraded the drivers to the latest I could find on the web in hopes of fixing the problem. Perhaps downgrading will fix the problem.

I was wrong. I don't have an nForce board. I have an intel chipset. It's an Asus P5GDC-V Deluxe.

My onboard NIC is a Marvell Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller. I'm running driver version 8.53.1.3. The date on the driver is 4/6/2006.
