Can't ping router or access net even though IP add assigned

Edit: I tried rebooting the router but this time left it unplugged for a few minutes. It appears to be functioning perfectly now. So that seems to have solved the problem, even though I'm still perplexed at what caused it in the first place.

I've got a half dozen pcs and devices hard wrired thru a Dlink DI-624 router. This morning I got on my on my pc. My wife had been on since I last used it, but sez all she did was google mapquest and run a mapquest query.

I rebooted my pc and the router and cable modem and reconnected the ethernet cable. IPCONFIG shows my pc assigned a valid IP address, but I tried pinging my router and it times out. I can ping the other devices on the network, and they can ping my pc. Disabling the firewall had no effect.

I have taken a look at all the settings I can think of and notice nothing out of the ordinary. And everything seems to be working fine except that I can't ping the router or access the net. I can't think of how or why this might happen and hope someone here can provide some insight or thoughts.
