Hi.
I have got myself a new PC and I have discovered that I cannot use the Ping or Tracert commands: they both timeout.
Why is this?
I have a hardware firewall and have tried to adjust its settings, but still can't get a Ping or Tracert response.
Please help me to resolve this problem.
Many thanks,
TC.

Check your firewall settings in your OS. You may be using a hardware firewall but your software firewall in your OS may still be enable and blocking your pings and tracerts.

If that still does not work for you than it is possible that your ISP has blcked those ICMP packets ( you know your ping and tracert packets). Verizion DSL and others have been known to block customers from using those commands... Pings today is hated by ISP's and websites....especially from users who put the command on constant ping for weeks...trying to bring sites or ISP's down...I don't blame them for blocking those commands. I am glad they block them.

Can now Tracert & Ping.
My hardware firewall was the problem - I hadn't opened the ping rule for incoming traffic.
Many thanks for your help,
TC
