Can't ping, no email at client.

Finally got my W2k and 98se machines network going. Had the problem with accessing the workgroup. I made NetBEUI default on the 98se machine and now I have another problem.
My network is;
A W2k machine hooked to a Starband modem with one NIC running ICS for a client that runs 98se. The 98se machine LAN is just a crossover cable to a second NIC in the W2k machine.
I can access the web from both machines now. My network is working great with complete file and print sharing up and running. I can not ping from the 98se machine to any outside IP's or mail servers. I can of course ping the IP of the W2k machine. The W2k machine has no problems with email or web browsing.

Any ideas?

I take it you are using ICS?

I know when I was using Wingate, you couldn't ping outside addresses from the client systems. On the main system, I could ping anything I wanted.

Are you still able to get your email and out to websites? Since you don't mention it, I will assume you only have a problem pinging. This is normal with ICS I believe. Been a long time since I used software ICS though. Nothing like a hardware router. :)

I know for myself, I tried to use ICS before, and couldn't get it to work. So, I went to Sybergen's Sygate. Installed it, and everything worked right out of the box. I think the ease of setup/administration was worth the $35-40 I paid for it. You might try the shareware/eval version and see if your life becomes a little easier. And the NAT translation is mucho nice when administering client machines. Especially Linux boxes.....
