Can't pin a Google Calendar shortcut to the quick launch bar in Windows 7

I was working on a client's system yesterday and they wanted to have the Google Calendar shortcut on the desktop pinned to the quick launch bar. Normally I would just drag and drop the shortcut to the quick launch bar and it stays in place. However in this instance when I try to drop the shortcut on the quick launch it only allows it to be pinned to Internet Explorer (which I don't want). Has anyone ever seen this? How do I get around it?

What browser? IE9 and Chrome both can make dedicated "application shortcuts" for a particular page, which is pretty useful. I do that with Chrome for gmail and calendar. Dunno if Firefox has such a feature.

edit: Otherwise, here's the same problem regarding pinning folders to the taskbar. I'm not 100% sure, but I'd imagine the workaround concepts would apply to webpages as well.
