Can't overclock

I bought a P3 600 a few months ago, and recently noticed it was running at 450. I tried overclocking, it still ran at 450, although the BIOS said 600. I tried underclocking, it still ran at 450. Any sugestions?

System

p3 600 running @ 450
P6BAT-A+ motherboard
64 ram
the usual stuff

where did you get the chip from, could be a fake! i don't know, first reset your cmos, read your motherboard manual on how to do that and find out thought intel what it is, using the codes on the case of the chip. what is telling you it's running at 450mhz, you say your bios said it's a 600 so... also get the latest bios update too good luck

When I turn the computer on, it says its at 450, around the time it counts the ram. But if I go into the BIOS, or CMOS, or whatever it is (the blue screen), it says 600 (or whatever I set it at).
The bios is fine, I updated it a few weeks ago...
You think I should check with Intel? How would I do that?

Let me explain you multiplier is locked so you probably set it to 6.0 x 100 = 600 but the 4.5 multiplier overides the 6.0 . 4.5 x 133 = 600. I think this is your problem

You need to change your FSB setting (Front Side Bus Speed) from 100 to 133. There are two possible ways to change this setting. One requires you to change jumpers on the motherboard physically while the other requires you to do it in the BIOS. If you could give the model and manufacturer of your motherboard I could tell you which way to do it and how to get it done.

Damned if I know. Any way to find out? I used the Intel frequency thing, it says it should be running at 600, but isnt.

My motherboard is a P6BAT-A+ made my Elitegroup Computer Systems
