This could be an issue with the file system, NAND memory or controller. I recommend starting by trying to get a full sector-by-sector clone or image of the thumb drive and then try to see if you can scan and find your files with R-Studio. If you do find files, recover them to a separate storage location on a different physical drive and verify that the recovered files open. If they do, great! If not, you likely need professional data recovery assistance.

That looks like a shortcut to the drive. Try accessing the drive directly via drive letter off windows explorer.

I use a lot of flash drives. Every once in a while I'll get one that can't be read. It will show the drive letter in Explorer, but I cannot access it or even format it. I tried various repair techniques, but nothing works. Fortunately, I purchase my flash drives at Micro Center which (their brand) is some of the cheapest, best lasting, and comes with a lifetime warranty.
