Can't open F.E.A.R. Combat or F.E.A.R. Single Player Demo

I downloaded and installed F.E.A.R. Combat, it didn't work, and I uninstalled it.

I then reinstalled it, and it still didn't work, so I uninstalled it again.

I downloaded the F.E.A.R. Single Player demo, installed it, and it didn't work.

Now, I will explain exactly what problems I am having. The first time I tried to play Combat, Microsoft Data Execution Prevention stopped the game from running and there was a system error that I sent the report of to Microsoft. I then went into the Data Execution Prevention screen and turned DEP on only "for essential Windows programs and services" instead of "for all programs and services except those I select". I also removed all the items that were in the list for the latter item. I tried to play F.E.A.R. Combat again and simply got a generic Windows error message that said the program "needs to close", etc. So I uninstalled F.E.A.R. Combat and restarted.

I reinstalled F.E.A.R. Combat and got the same error message and could not play the game, so I uninstalled F.E.A.R. Combat again and restarted.

I then downloaded the F.E.A.R. single player demo and installed that, and it told me to restart, so I did. I then tried to play the demo and got the same error message.

And that brings me to now. What is going on? What do I have to do to get this game to work? Does anyone have any suggestions?

My system specs are in my signature.

your system specs show that you have a 20 pin PSU on a 24 pin mobo.
you might have a power problem but i'm not sure.
maybe others will be able to shed more light on the matter.

Right now I have a 20-pin to 24-pin converter on it that seems to have vastly improve stability. I doubt that would be the problem, anyway, because it does not seem to even try to open. It just gives me the error.

You have to delete the kb917422 patch. I had the same problem. Delete at your own risk.
