Can't open Excel files from network shares

I'm having a problem opening Excel files(by double-clicking) from network shares with names that contain empty spaces on my NT4 station. However I can open the files just fine if I go through the File->Open routine. I suppose I could live with it, but I'd prefer to just double click on the damn file to open it, if at all possible. The error message contains something like "\\server\network.xls was not found", when the actual path is more like \\server\network share\filename.xls. It does it with all the shares on different servers, it seems. It didn't always behave this way, and uninstall/install routine hasn't done anything to fix it... Any ideas? No, I can't rename the shares... Thanks...

you mean something like this?

file stored on \\server\tim0thy docs\foo.xls and it returns it can't find \\server\tim0thy.xls?

if it's something like that, then it sounds like your DDEs aren't set up correctly.
