Cant open Control panel in vista

I am getting reduced functionality in Vista Home premuim OEM 64 bit.
I have a legit copy and it has been activated. I Experienced this problem before activation and it went away after I activated my copy but came back the next day.

I cant open control panel, cant personalize settings, aero and 3d flip are disabled.

I know that this happens if you do not activate in 30 days. But I dont know why mine is doing this.

Tried reactivating but windows says my copy is active.
Installed WHQL nvidia 100.65

nothing works

People are also reporting this problem Here

Can anybody help thanks

I posted about the same problem.

The only fix for me was a reinstall of Vista.

here's a work around...A temp fix until you have to restart the computer.

Start computer hit F8 when the boot menu comes up choose LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION it always worked for me.

Hope that helps...

Gawd. Dont' reinstall!

The problem is a result of a combination of:
A bug in the nvidia driver installer
improper installation of the drivers (failing to uninstall old ones first).

What's happening is the nvidia drivers are dropping an old version of the control panel extension on to the system. It's bunk so control panel doesn't load.

See nVidia's support forums. There are a couple threads over there on the fix/workaround.

don't reinstall! Yuck!
