Can't OC at all after new CD-RW and HD?

This seems very odd. I had my XP 2400+ running at 2.3 GHz. 12x193 instead of 12x166. When I installed the new items, the machine wouldn't boot. I only got it to boot by setting it to the original 12x166. Sometimes it'll just give me a black screen instead of the Windows logo, and other times it won't even post, and I have to reset the CMOS. Could some measly drives (which are new and better) really cap my FSB level that much? Thanks for the help...

I see that your motherboard does not support PCI frequency lock. So my best guess is, your drives cannot handle the higher bus frequency?

Sorry. Wrong rig. That's the old one. Here's the one:

Epox 8RDA+
XP 2400+
512MB PC2700 DDRRAM (yes, I'm underclocking it at like 83% when I OC--the RAM won't go above 166)
Seagate Barracuda V 120GB
Maxtor 80GB <- new one

Would something on the IDE get messsed up by a bus over 166? That drive has never been in a machine above that bus... should I try a PCI speed lock?

the pci bus is auto matically locked on that mobo

try taking out the newly added drives and see if the problem disappers

Or perhaps the new devices are drawing enough power that the CPU is not getting enough? My Barton would not run properly at the default 166FSB until I got a 400w powersupply to replace the 350w I had in the box originally.
