Can't oc a TBird 900 on an KT7. Used pencil trick, have globalwin hs, whats wrong ?

The Cpu is a retail week 31 if I recall. I performed the pencil tricjk and the cpu will post at 950, but give BSOD when booting windows. At 1000Mhz the computer will only post about half the time. THe other half the monitor just cuts out soon after the I start the computer.

Am I missing something, I disabled the the speed error warning and have tried every voltage setting up to 1.85V. Can somebody give some advice ?

Try the pencil trick again, or get the Defogger Kit.

I had to try it 3 times... 3rd was the charm.

It helps to use a magnifying glass and a mechanical pencil ( .05 or smaller lead )

My T´Bird 800 is only overclockable when I perform the pencil trick on the first three L1-bridges. If I close the fourth bridge, the PC locks up after a few minutes.

I will try the pencil trick again. I am afraid of damaging my CPU though by all the mounting and demounting of the HS/Fan. I have already done it probably 3 or 4 times. How many times is safe to attach and remove this thing before I can worry about destroying my CPU ?


Any personal experiences would be helpfull.

I had the same fears about crunching my CPU at the beginning of my o´clocking, but the more often you mount it, the more experience you get with it.
It depends on the HS/fan you have, too.
I had problems with the first cooler, but my Alpha PAL6035 is really easy to mount.

it doesn't matter how many times you do it. Just as long you don't make a mess when you reapply the thermal stuff
