Can't make Google default search provider in IE11 in Win 7 x64?

For some reason, each time I close/open Internet Explorer, it opens the default home page but it also opens some bing crap telling me to set bing as my home page and IE as my default browser (which it is)

Go to tools in the upper right corner, choose "manage add-on". Choose "search providers", once there, delete Bing, and if google isn't listed, choose "find more search providers" at the bottom left of the window. If it is listed, right click and set as default.

I used to install the GoogleToolbarInstaller and enable google as the default search provider. I also used to disable the google toolbar.

yeah this has been an issue lately. it's not your computer. Just the unreliable Microsoft. Give it a few days and maybe the search add-on will work again. When you click add now nothing happens.

Switch to a real browser please. Firefox FTW

I've never had a problem with changing search providers in any browser before. I'd check to see if any malware is present on your system that is preventing you from changing your settings. You can get malwarebytes free and clean it off your system.

Fellas KB3038314 released on super patch Tuesday is preventing us from changing search providers. Just go into programs and features, select installed updates and look around for it. Once you locate it uninstall it and reboot and the problem will be gone. I just had to do this on my own systems once I discovered that I had the same problem on my tablet when I tried to add google and couldn't. I searched around and found several articles on the issue which identified that particular update as the culprit.
