Can't log onto a laptop

My brother-in-law has a Sony laptop with Win2k Pro on it. He has not used it for at least a year and forgot his password. Now he can't use the computer.

Is the only option to reinstall the OS?

Password reset utility FTW! That thing's saved my butt several times. Lets you reset the admin password or any user password to whatever you want. Gotta have a cdrom drive and be able to boot from it though.
