Can't Load XP on DiamondMax 10 300GB SATA with 16mb Cache

I just got all my system components:
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (939) MB with Athlon64 3200+ chip
Mushkin Blue PC3200 512mbx2
PNY Geforce 6800NU
and Maxtor DiamondMax10 300GB 7200rpm, 16mb cache SATA harddrive

I have everything all put together and I am trying to install Win XP Pro but am having a hell of a time getting windows setup to recognize the drive.
I have done several different things: I have the drive on SATA3 port, in the bios I have set up a RAID like some people have suggested (even though it is only 1 drive) and I have tired without setting up a RAID array in the bios.

I boot from the Win XP CD, hit F6, load both apps off of the Floppy (both the raid class driver and the NForce storage controller like many people have said). Then it just locks up on Windows set up. At the bottom of the screen it ends up saying "Setup is starting windows" for like 5 minutes then it says Windows can't identify a Hard drive.

Any suggestions?

My guess would be that you have to slipstream SP2 into that Install Disc. I think that you need that, or maybe at *least* SP1 to be able to detect it. What does the install Disc have on it? Either?

(They are cumulative of course, so if you have 2, you don't need 1.)

EDIT: I think I found your answer here

Hey thanks Man,
So you think my XP Pro (no service pack) is the actual problem? It just isn't seeing the drive at all?
I tried multiple times to slipstream SP2 into the CD but I kept getting an error and everyone said I should have been doing it on an XP machine, but all I have at home is 2 Win 2000 machines.
Any suggestions?

Actually, hold on a second. You said it's not seeing the drive at all? Well then this may not be the problem. Because if it was a SP issue, then your drive would be recognized, just as a 137 gb drive.

I'm going to suggest looking for any BIOS updates next.

EDIT: And it doesn't matter what machine you do the slipstream on. Just as long as you follow the instructions here..

Or, try using this program to make your actual disk image: Link

Alright, this may sound stupid but here's what I got now....
My bios is 1.4 which I think is the latest release.
I went through thre install one more time for shits and giggles and actually missed the part where I am suppoed to hit F6 to add a RAID or SCSI device driver, and It found the drive, only 131Gb of the drive but it found it and is currently letting me install XP. I guess I will give this a try, maybe I can slip stream Win XP SP2 on the system then reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows with S2 on it.
OR, if I install SP2 by itself right now, will it recognize the full 300GB?
Thanks Keyser

If this is your MB page here, then you are updated with the most recent updates.

I *think* it should recognize the entire drive once you update to SP2. Not a hundred percent sure, because the only issues I've read are when they are having problems with the secondary drive. Not sure how this would work since it's your primary volume with WinXP installed.

(I'll let someone else chime in and answer that question 😛)
