can't kill a process

Red Squirrel

No Lifer
Trying to kill a process but nothing happens. It just wont die.

I tried typing killall rsync. Nothing. Did it like 40 times. Nothing.

Tried to kill it by pid, still, nothing. I had to reboot. I don't know why I went and scheduled a backup job at 12:00pm.... was pretty stupid of me. Mind you on my old server it only took 5 minutes to run... this new server has no balls at all.

Is there another way to force kill a process?

kill -9 pid
kill parent pid
kill -9 parent pid

if a process is waiting for I/O, then an interrupt has to come from the storage, nfs, local, san, whatever as well. if storage is fubar'd, nasty things can happen.
