Can't install XP on w/hdd on pci ide controller!

first the specs:

Promise Ultra100 TX2 ata100 pci controller card
Giga-Byte 7xz-1 mb w/newest bios
IBM 75GXP 45gb

now the problem:

installed card/drivers on existing XP setup, everything went fine. tried to boot from it - switched boot sequence to boot from scsi in bios - but no luck. the card would see the drive attached but when it went to boot there was some kind of device not found error and it went on to the next location in the boot sequence. tried disabling onboard ide but then it did nothing.

so i formatted - planned on dual booting for a while, this was my chance - and tried to reinstall XP. booted from cd, and everything went till detecting hardware where it paused for the longest time. long enough for the cd to spin down for a while, then spin back up. then first installation screen came up where you have to press f6 to load 3rd party scsi drivers, which i did. loaded the floppy that came with the card and everything seemed to be on its way since windows was loading all these files. then it says setup is starting windows or something, at bottom of the screen like everything else and then sits there. nothing happens. i've waited for 20 min before i retried. nothing at all.

someone please help!!!!

Maybe I missed something, but you don't have a scsi controller. do you have anything on the onboard ide controller? if not set that as the first boot device.

nothing on onboard ide as of yet, the boot hdd was on the pci controller

in most cases your supposed to set boot to scsi if you booting from a pci storage controler, which i am
setting it to boot from ide makes it search for hdd connected to onboard ide, and there are none

does the card have a bios screen? on my 29160 I hit ctrl-a at POST and it brings me into the cards bios, I can then select which drives to boot from.

i had to put this aside for a while but im back. tried the ctrl-a technique and it seems to do nothing.

any more ideas i could try?

edit: yes, there is a bios screen, it tells which drives are attached just like the regular mb bios
