i've been using seagate 80gb SATA drive
changed to seagate 160gb IDE pata drive
when I boot from windowsXP cd, it goes through syste checking etc... then I see black screen with cursor blinking on top left coner then it reboots...
with old drive, it goes into setup after that blinking cursor.

i remember doing SATA setup when I got that drive, do I need to un do that or something?

Download My BootDisk, and create boot floppies for your OS.
Use the floppies along with your CD to get the install started.

It's worked for me with different OS and different HDs. 🙂

did you by any chance disable your PATA controller or something?

that should not be a problem unless it can find NO hard drive....

new hd is 160gb and my xp cd is not SP1/2
so maybe that has something to do with it?
slipstreaming SP2 now.. hope that works

whats that whole thing with windows not recognizing about 132 or somethign without an update? I don't think that is the case but I was just wondering what it was all about

dont think so. i have a seagate 160 SATA and it was fine with windows Xp.
OP did you get your seagate OEM??? mine came with a disk that i used before installing windows. Hope this helps

I took the same drive to other computer and it goes through setup just fine...
so i'm guessing this computer and SATA has something to do with this..
old sata drive is completely off
tried disabling sata from bios, no luck
tried reseting cmos, no luck

IDE 1 boot first in BIOS? Jumper set to Master or CS on the HD? Unplug SATA when you install OS on IDE HD?
