When I try to install Windows XP Home on a just built machine it keeps freezing on the first blue screen, when its loading stuff (drivers?) from the CD.
A couple of times it got through it but then when I choose to format the drive under NTFS it starts and then just sits on 0% with no drive activity for ever.
Any help?

Heres my spec incase you need it:
Athlon XP2200+
ASUS A7V333
512MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM
Western Digital Caviar 80GB Special Edition
Pioneer DVD-A06S
Geforce4 Ti4600
Soundblaster Audigy
Teac 3.5" floppy drive
431W Enermax PSU

Try turning off Advanced Power Management (APM) in the BIOS.

If that doesn't help, try choosing the STANDARD PC HAL.
Press F5 when the "Windows Setup" screen comes on.

Start with the baiscs and make sure that all your components are correctly seated/attached such as memory, video, cpu, ata cables, etc.

Check to make sure your bios doesn't have any extreme settings for memory, agp or cpu ,if you are try using default settings for the time being .

I also notice on the ASUS website on the ASUS A7V333 this NOTE !
Note: * Use only the tested and qualified PC2700-DDR333 DIMMs listed below.
Other DDR DIMM manufactured by other vendors may not be suitable for this motherboard.

Vendor Type Size Model
Nanya PC2700 256MB NT5DS16M8AT-6
Samsung PC2700 128MB K4H280838D-TCB3
Samsung PC2700 256MB K4H280838D-TCB3
Micron PC2700 128MB MT8VDDT1664AG-335B1
Micron PC2700 256MB MT16VDDT1664AG-335B1
KINGMAX PC2700 128MB MPMA82D-68KX3
KINGMAX PC2700 256MB MPM62D-68KX3

I see that your using a 512mb stick so I'm not sure if this mobo has a size limitation as well as being brand specific.

I've put the BIOS settings back to the defaults and the freezing problem seems to have gone.
But it still won't format the hard drive.
