Can't install Windows XP on new hard drive

I'm trying to install Windows on my new SATA hard drive. First time I tried, Windows told me there was no hard drive. So I made a driver disk per the instructions from my mobo manual. Using the driver disk during Windows set up didn't help either. I flashed to the newest BIOS version and that didn't do it. As far as I know, all the settings I need for using SATA are enabled in my BIOS. I do know the hard drive works, I was able to create an array with it in the Fast Build utility. But I'm not sure if I need to do that.

I have an Asus K8V SE Deluxe mobo and my hard drive is a WD 250gb SATA. I will only use one SATA drive so I'm not sure what RAID configuration I need. I'm also unsure if my SATA cable should be plugged into the "SATA 1" port or the "primary SATA" port.

As you can tell, I'm very confused and any help will be appreciated.

Just a guess:

Your motherboard has built-in (eg. part of nForce) as well as on-board (eg. Promise controller) SATA controllers.

You provided the driver for one of those when you pressed F6, but it wasn't the driver for the controller that your drive is plugged into. Either try a different driver, or try the other plug.

You have a VIA board that doesn't like Western Digital drives when they're running in SATA2 mode, so you'll have to jumper the drive to SATA1 (don't remember what pins to put the jumper on, ask Google). Also, see if your SATA is set to IDE mode instead of RAID mode.
