When i try to make a clean install of windows xp pro it usually hangs when it says it will start windows.
Sometimes it goes slightly further.
I did a lowlevel format of the harddrive (maxtor 80GB). I have a asus a7n266-vm with interfrated
videocard and soundcard. Could it be the harddrive thats defective?
This is very frustrating.

Looking at your rig, i might blame it on your ram. I've had this problem before, and it was a bad stick of Crucial ram (suprising, huh?)

Either that or overclocking, but i'd suspect the ram.

How's the memory on the problem machine? Might try it again with a different stick of ram.

Get Memtest86 and test your RAM... No need for a different stick. If you get lotsa errors, thats your problem. It might also be something like your HD or CD Drive.

BTW does it get to the setup screen? Or does it hang after you install and reboot. Like when does it hang?

No ocing and keep memory at stock or less, speed and timings.....

I have seen it with brad ram as well as a dirty underside of the disk!!!
